Current foreign and security policy issues regarding stationing nuclear tactical weapons in Italy

Questões atuais em política externa e de segurança relacionadas ao estacionamento de armas táticas nucleares na Itália

Resumo

A Itália armazena armas táticas nucleares dos EUA desde os anos cinquenta. Durante a Guerra Fria, Roma considerou o acolhimento de armas nucleares uma ferramenta para fortalecer o ranking internacional do país, na esperança de oferecer oportunidade de restaurar a confiança na imagem internacional da Itália, que foi abalada pela Segunda Guerra Mundial. Como conseqüência do efeito da lógica bipolar na política doméstica italiana, o acolhimento de armas nucleares garantiu que o Partido Comunista Italiano permanecesse em oposição. Embora as razões originais de hospedar armas nucleares dos EUA tenham desaparecido no final da Guerra Fria, a Itália não está promovendo ativamente o desarmamento nuclear.
