Abstract

This article evaluates sexual violence in the current conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo from a political economy approach, analyzing how capitalism, mineral extractivism and imperialism, in a macro-focused aspect, influence the context of gender violence in the DRC. To this end, the research compares feminist, post-colonial and African perspectives on the variables at work in the Congolese State of Violence, correlating and criticizing the aforementioned theoretical interpretations. Finally, the production observes the economic-political aspects as strong influencers of sexual violence in conflicts, and denounces Western epistemologies that generalize gender relations from non-Western and Third World contexts.
