Alteridade e interseccionalidade: reflexões sobre a velhice no tempo da COVID-19

Este artigo parte da descoberta da própria autora, durante a epidemia de COVID, de que havia se tornado uma pessoa “velha”. O artigo examina as formas como os velhos estão sujeitos a modos distintos de alteridade e exclusão social, bem como ao que Simone de Beauvoir (em La Viellesse – A Velhice) chama de “conspiração do silêncio” na sociedade ocidental contemporânea. Tal exame se amplia para documentar como essa conspiração geral do silêncio também permeou durante muito tempo o feminismo e continua a permear a teoria feminista. É especialmente surpreendente – e preocupante – que as considerações sobre a velhice estejam de todo ausentes das atuais análises interseccionais de outras formas importantes de opressão, como gênero, raça e classe. Se a teoria feminista quiser cumprir eficazmente a sua missão, como corpo de teoria crítica que se relaciona com as opressões atuais e informa práticas políticas resistentes, então precisa urgentemente ampliar a sua missão para examinar a velhice. Pois a velhice é ao mesmo tempo uma posição social opressiva em si mesma e um lugar em que múltiplas outras opressões se cruzam. Além disso, ignorar a velhice dificulta o próprio trabalho teórico sobre questões vitais como vulnerabilidade, poder, justiça, liberdade e possíveis fundamentos para a solidariedade política.
