Abstract

Lasers had been part of the clinical dentistry with their specific applications in an increasing way. Diode laser can be used in incisional or excisional surgical application, vaporization, hemostasis, with precision in the incision line, mechanical trauma reduction, instantaneous disinfection of the surgical wound, offering more comfort in the postoperative period. Despite its advantages described in the literature, the technique and clinical implications remain little known, restricting its use. The aim of this paper was to elucidate diode laser characteristics and properties, allowing better knowledge by the Dentists regarding its functioning and clinical applicabilities. In conclusion, diode laser has many possibilities of clinical use in dentistry, but randomizes clinical trials are needed to the better basement of its use.
