PEER REVIEW PROCESS

The Figure below summarizes the manuscript review process at Abakós.

Authors are requested to use the PUC Minas Article Style for preparing the final camera-ready version available at: Directions for elaborating a scientific paper.

To ensure integrity of the blind peer review, the guidelines below should be followed to avoid revealing the identity of authors and reviewers to each other during the evaluation process. This requires authors, editors and reviewers (who may submit documents to the system as part of the review process) to take certain precautions with texts and documents:

  1. Authors must exclude their names from the text, replacing with "Author" and year in references and footnotes, instead of author names, article title, etc.
  2. In Microsoft Office documents, remove author identification from document properties.
  3. In PDF files, remove author names from Document Properties.

Upon receipt of a manuscript, the editorial committee verifies adherence to the scope and standards of the journal. Only submissions approved in this preliminary stage are submitted for peer review. In the peer review, the reviewers assess the strengths and weaknesses of the paper in terms of scope, scientific merit, quality of presentation, and quality of grounding in the scientific literature.

Once the article has been accepted for publication, authors may publish the preprint on platforms such as "SciELO Preprints" and "arXiv.org e-Print archive". The final version of the article will be published on the journal's website at the time of publication of the biannual issue, usually in May and November of each year.

Papers should be formatted:

  • A4-size (21.0 cm x 29.7 cm) pages.
  • The main text of 12-point Times New Roman, aligned to the right, 3 cm top/left margins, and 2 cm bottom/right margins.
  • Single space between lines (1.5 cm).
  • Double spacing (2 x 1.5 cm) after titles, sections, subsections and the main text, and, also, between a new text and the preceding one.
  • Paragraphs should be indented to 1.25 cm (from the left margin) - with no spaces between paragraphs.
  • Long form citation, footnotes, references, figure and table captions should be single-spaced typed.
  • Short form citation (up to three lines) is embedded in the text. The citation should be quoted (“), indicating the author, date and page. The citation can also be used with no quotation marks, indicating the author and date. Page numbers are optional.
  • Long form citation (more than three lines) should be presented in 10-point font, 4 cm indented, single space, no quotation marks, indicating the author, date and page.

  • Figure caption should be displayed at the bottom, with a 10-point font, and centered.
  • Table caption should be centered, displayed at the top, with a 10-point font and centered. Table text should be centered, displayed at the bottom, with a 10-point font.
  • Tables and figures are numbered independently of each other. They are sequentially numbered according to their order in the text. Captions begin with the word "Table" or "Figure" (first letter capitalized) followed by a character space, and the sequential number (Arabic numeral), followed by only initials in capital letter, exception made to abbreviations and expression commonly written in capital letters. Figures and Tables should be referenced in the text.
  • Reference should follow ABNT and PUC Minas style. It must be presented in alphabetical order, left aligned, single spacing between lines. Double spacing is required between reference items. The reference (title) is centralized. No number should be used to identify sections.
  • All pages should be numbered.
  • The alineas  should be left aligned in 1.5 paragraph style. Each one must be preceded by colons (:) and each topic of the  alineas designated by letters a), b), c), etc. Also, it begins with a lowercase letter ending in “;” - the last one ends with a period. For divisions within alineas any symbol could be used. It is recommended to always use the same symbol throughout the text.
  • The Editorial Board reserves the right to make changes in the text, following the standards of the journal, in order to maintain the uniformity and quality of publication, preserving, however, style and content.
