Abstract

This article presents the results and methodology of an Innovation Index, used as a unit of measurement to evaluate and compare the innovation systems of Brazilian states, focusing on the innovation system of Minas Gerais. Innovation rates were calculated for 13 Brazilian states, presented in two dimensions: “knowledge creation” and “innovation environment”. Based on the results, comparisons of the variables for Minas Gerais and the first states in the ranking were established, showing the intermediate position of the state and the distance of the Minas Gerais innovation system in relation to the main state innovation systems in Brazil.
