Abstract

Together for a Better Planet (JPM) is a Brazilian NGO, made up of volunteers, which works to promote and raise awareness of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), maintaining its activities with resources from financial supporters. During the participation of Silvia, the director of JPM, in an event focused on sustainability, the NGO received a proposal from a representative of the coal thermoelectric sector, signaling the desire to support it financially. This sparked a heated debate among the JPM team. The central question of the case is whether or not the NGO accepts a financial supporter from an area whose results of action, historically, produce a negative impact on socio-environmental issues.
Although this fact is contrary to JPM's purpose, it is necessary to highlight that companies that propose to practice a just transition are acting in line with the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda. In this sense, the case raises a reflection on whether this could be considered a good reason for
accepting the proposal. It is recommended to use this teaching case in courses that address sustainability and business strategy.
