The inequalities expressed in Brazilian society permeate all areas of social life, but the articulation between them may have particular dynamics according to certain socioeconomic, professional, and cultural contexts. The Social Sciences are responsible for a large part of these analyses; however, their practice has been the subject of relatively few studies to date. In order to help fill this gap, the National Association of Graduate Studies and Research in Social Sciences (Anpocs) has initiated several actions to survey the demographic characteristics of professional social scientists, especially in the academic field. This article analyzes some of the results of the project “Futures of Work in the Social Sciences”, which sought, among other objectives, to investigate how markers of race and gender affect professional practices in the scientific community of this broad area. The results demonstrate that both variables are essential to support the proposal of policies that improve the diversity and potential for innovation in the Social Sciences in Brazil.
