Abstract

The study is a case report of an adult patient critically ill by COVID-19, who was admitted in a private hospital’s intensive care unit  in Belo Horizonte. The patient was submitted to an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and despite the major systemic compromise, he presented a satisfactory outcome with the therapy and was able to receive hospital discharge after 29 days hospitalized. Considering the intervention’s complexity, it’s high cost and it’s applicability in the coronavirus pandemic, the article brings introduction informations about ECMO, it’s uptodated guidelines about it’s usage in COVID-19 and proposes reflections about it’s indications and limitations in clinical practice.
