Abstract

Mexico and Guatemala were composed by a large number of indigenous peoples, and the different ranks of colonial society reacted differently to the Spanish domain. There was an uprising of revolutionary groups composed mainly of indigenous peoples, but these were not successful and contributed to the increase of the distancing of these peoples towards the colonial elite. The great flow of ideas and values between New Spain (Mexico) and the Kingdom of Guatemala (Guatemala) ended up developing a negative imaginary about the indigenous people, these ideas reflected in the plan of government and in the constitutions that arose in these countries, both conquered independence almost simultaneously and still today they face problems with the integration of these peoples in the national life.
