Abstract

Transnational companies are studied as wealth and technological development generators in the relationship with States. The impact of the entry of External Direct Investment (EDI) in the economic structure becomes an interesting object of study. Aiming, therefore, to present and explain how this impact occurred in Brazil between the years 2000 and 2018, this article mobilizes documentary and bibliographic research for the correlation of variables related to the EDI with the variables related to the Brazilian productive structure, focusing on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Current Account. It was concluded that the increase in the entry of EDI was related to a small increase in GDP and generated neither technological transfer nor transformation of the productive structure and of the Balance of Payments of Brazil.
