Abstract

The main purpose of this article is to present the historical context of when the Baltics States joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and, then, analyze this period with a defensive neorealist theorical lens. Thereby, with the study of the principal works of Kenneth N. Waltz and, also, some texts about the Political Science field, an analysis was developed looking forward to understand the reason why Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, which were former Soviet republics, joined NATO in 2004.
