Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The contribution must be original and unpublished, and must not be being evaluated for publication by another journal; otherwise, please justify in "Comments to the Editor".
  • It is recommended that files for submission be in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice or RTF format.
  • URLs for references need to be provided when necessary.
  • ABSTRACT and RESUMO must contain between 100 and 250 words.
  • The text follows the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in "Guidelines for Authors", in the "About the Journal" section.
  • Articles from researchers in general will be accepted, according to the requirements of indexing agencies.
  • Reviews are also open to researchers in general.

GENERAL PUBLICATION RULES

Presentation
The VirtuaJus Journal of the Faculdade Mineira de Direito (Law School) at the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, published biannually since 2016, is classified as B1 in QUALIS (Sucupira Platform/CAPES - Brazil) and its goal is to divulge academic articles from Law and related areas that can contribute to the improvement of interdisciplinary reflection on a critical basis.

Criteria for Article Selection
For publication, the following will be evaluated: the originality, the relevance of the article to the theme proposed by the editorial committee, the quality of the scientific methodology used, as well as the adequacy to the editorial standards adopted by the journal. All texts will be submitted to technical review. The content and the accuracy of the citations will be the sole responsibility of the authors.

Types of Accepted Work
The journal will accept unpublished articles in the following languages: English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. The texts must correspond to the following categories:

  • articles, comprising theoretical studies with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 20 pages (approximately between 30,000 and 50,000 characters with spaces).
  • reviews of national or foreign publications, bibliographic reviews, as well as theses and dissertations. Book reviews must comply with the theoretical purpose of the journal, and have a maximum size of 5 pages (approximately 15,000 characters with spaces). Reviews must refer to recent works with a maximum of 2 years of publication. In the case of books published in a foreign language, this time may be reassessed by the editors, depending on their translations.

In order to submit articles, it is necessary for each author to register on the PUC Minas journal platform and submit online.

Text Preparation
Texts must be typed in Word format, Times New Roman font, size 12 (titles must be in capital letters), simple spacing between lines, page configuration with formatting of 3.0 cm for the top margin and 2.0 cm to the bottom; 3.0 cm for the left margin and 2.0 cm for the right, on A4 paper (210 x 297 mm), “portrait” orientation. Numbered pages, including the title in the lower right corner.

Word's “footnote” feature should only be used in relevant cases that do not fit into the logical sequence of the text;

All citations inserted in the text must be accompanied by the reference (Author, date and page number) of the work from which it was extracted. For example: (Bobbio, 1992, p. 90). Complete bibliographic references should be listed at the end of each article.

The following must appear on the first page: a) title of the work; b) name of authors; c) academic title and institutional affiliation of each author, as well as the contact e-mail; d) abstract, translated abstract and keywords.

Book reviews must contain: name of the book, city, publisher, number of pages, name of author and translator.

Reviews of dissertations and theses must contain: title; author's name (including in a footnote his title and institutional affiliation, as well as contact address and e-mail).

For reviews, the text summary or keywords are not required.

Abstract and Keywords
Abstracts should have between 100 and 250 words, with 4 keywords.

CITATIONS

1. Free citations:

Should indicate the author surname and year of publication in parentheses. Example: (Derrida, 2007). Note: If there are two or more works cited by the same author and year, indicate, after the date, the letter “a” for the first and the letter “b” for the second citation, and so on. Example.: (Ross, 2003a) – (Ross, 2003b).

2. Textual citations:

Short citations (up to three lines) are inserted in the text, followed by the author's surname, publication date and page, in parentheses. Long citations (more than three lines) must constitute an independent paragraph, indented 4 cm from the left margin, with a letter smaller than that used in the text, single space and without quotation marks, followed by the author's surname, publication date and page, between parentheses. Example: (DERRIDA, 2007, p. 10)

3. Citation of a secondary source (when unavoidable): in the body of the text, cite authors and dates of the two texts (example: Montaigne, apud Derrida, 2007, p. 25).

REFERENCES
Bibliographic references should appear at the end of the article, in alphabetical order by surname. The list of references should follow the model of the examples below:

7. Abbreviations
Abbreviations, in their first appearance, must indicate to which name, in full, they correspond in the text. Then, do not repeat the name in full. Example: Critique of Pure Reason: CPR.

Appreciation by Associate Editors
The works presented will be evaluated by the Associate Editors, who will forward them to ad hoc consultants, at their discretion. The Committee reserves the right to point out necessary corrections in the works received, returning them to the authors for their due adaptation to the norms of the journal. Authors will be notified of the acceptance or rejection of their articles. The originals, even when not used, will not be returned. In case of acceptance with indication of alterations, the works must be reviewed by the authors and returned for a new evaluation within 20 days.
