Abstract

Dance is one of the oldest cultural and bodily manifestations of humanity. It is a mandatory
class in Basic Education due to the new National Common Curriculum and the Law
13.278/16. This paper aims to present the cartographies of dance in the school context through
an artist-teacher experience report on teaching dance in Art and Physical Education in the
initial years of Elementary School I in the municipal public school system of Betim, Minas
Gerais, in 2019. The theoretical framework rests on Foucault (1998) and Deleuze’s (1996)
approach to the discourse of the body and Ana Mae Barbosa’s (2010) Triangular Approach to
teach art. Cartography is the methodology used, in which a section of the diary of an artist-
teacher is exposed. The intention is to demonstrate the teaching reality in arts/dance and
identify the daily life of this professional. Thus, contribute to the discussion about didactic
experiences in dance in schools. This proposal sought to promote reflections about dance
education in public schools in Basic Education.
