IMPACTOS DA PANDEMIA DA COVID-19 NA PERDA ESTIMADA PARA CRÉDITO DE LIQUIDAÇÃO DUVIDOSA DE INSTITUIÇÕES FINANCEIRAS
Abstract
The Covid-19 pandemic has had global impacts on various sectors of the economy. In the sector of financial institutions, in addition to the challenge of digital transformation inherent in the sector, there was also a need to adjust to the flexible measures in the treatment of credits aimed at renegotiations to mitigate the effects of the pandemic. The Expected Credit Loss reflect the losses that are expected due to customer default, and given the pandemic scenario, the survey sought to identify the operational, economic and financial impacts on financial institutions listed in B3 with emphasis on the effects caused by Expected Credit Loss. To this end, the last three Financial Statements of 23 entities were researched, with Banco Brasil, Bradesco, Itaú and Santander being the most representative institutions in terms of the credit portfolio. There was a reduction in the sector's financial intermediation revenues and an increase in accounts receivable, which may be a reflection of default. However, despite the tendency to follow the movements of Accounts Receivable, there was a decrease of 3.6% from 2019 to 2020 in Expected Credit Loss, which can be explained by the adherence to BACEN Resolution No. 4,782/2020, which introduced measures of flexibility for credit renegotiation. It is concluded that the pandemic negatively affected the sector, but the effects were mitigated by regulatory measures in the sector itself, however, it is clear that banks will need to develop new strategies to capture revenue in the face of changing customer behavior until the recovery of the economy as a whole.
