ALIMENTAÇÃO VEGETARIANA: análise sobre o consumo entre classes sociais de Belo Horizonte, MG
Abstract
Our paper discusses the consumption of vegetarian food in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. We try to understand how different social classes access products and services related to vegetarian food. The theoretical approach is based on two main discussions, the notion of Liquid Modernity by Zygmunt Bauman and of consumption by Gilles Lipovetsky. The investigation is based on the framework of qualitative research, relying on the collection of secondary and primary data, through in-depth semi-structured interviews and the application of questionnaires with consumers from different geographic regions of Belo Horizonte. The survey results indicate that there are relevant differences in terms of access to vegetarian products and services in the city, although in recent years there has been a transformation in consumption habits and in the capacity to offer vegetarian-oriented food products and services. We try to contribute to the understanding of the inequality of access to alternative and oriented ways to promote human health from positions within social classes.
