The present article is an analysis of the homeless population, more specifically of children and adolescents with a life trajectory in the streets, through music as an instrument of participatory research. A reflection built on the professional praxis of the Social Educator of the street approach and the intricacies of our music in everyday life. The first topic “Music, History, Language and Mediation” refers to the musical construction in the face of history, its structuring in language to a contemporary reading and the correlation with Vygotsky's concept of mediation. The second topic explains how this research and the practice of Social Approach in the street population was built, called “Street trajectory and research”. The next topic, entitled “Recipes: street, characters, and musical function”, develops the dialogue between the concept of social functions in Frith's music (1987), with the characters that transit in the streets. And, it concludes in a reflection on the effectiveness of music in the intervention with children and adolescents with life trajectory in the streets
