Abstract

The conciliation between professional activities and family life is a challenge
for everybody. In face of the formation of a family and, especially, with the
arrival of children, role adjustments are necessary. Therefore, the goal of this
study was to understand how the interaction of work and family has been
described in the scientific literature, in the context of the support network
in economically active couples with the arrival of their children. This is
a systematic review of the literature, including articles published between
2011 and 2016. The results reveal that the woman continues as a “multitask”
member, who shares her chores better with the man compared to a few years
ago, especially in caring for her children. The support network is extremely
important to the family in its constitution, which is represented mainly by
the spouse, grandparents, and others. Coping strategies in the family/work
and work/family conflict are discussed, along with the relevance of future
studies with methodological rigor.
