Abstract

Based on a literature review, this article aims to approach religious fundamentalism through the theoretical support of Freudian psychoanalysis. This approach is justified by the fact that fundamentalism presents itself as a religious phenomenon that currently gains space and strength in society. Given its progress and its influence on national and world political scenarios, it is necessary to reflect and critically intervene in various areas of knowledge, among which psychoanalysis can also contribute. In his work Freud did not deal with fundamentalism. However, his formalizations about narcissism and the idealization of passionate objects, his understanding of the formation and functioning of groups, his conception of the drive dynamism that moves individuals and the collectivity and his critique of religion are shown in this article as possible. theoretical basis to reflect on fundamentalism.
