Abstract

Considering the scarcity of research about women who experience motherhood and university studies at the same time, this work aims to investigate the emotional experience of mothers enrolled at university. Individual interviews were conducted with 10 mothers of universities in Minas Gerais, mediated by the Thematic-Drawing-and-Story Procedure, according to the thematic “a university mother”. After each interview, the researcher wrote a transferential narrative of the meeting. The material, psychoanalytically analyzed, was organized according to the Field Theory. It was identified three fields, entitled “Impaired professional”, “Failed mother” and “(In)dependent woman”. The participants experienced discomfort in
their roles as students, as well as mothers, having the impression that their independence had been aborted. It was concluded that the investigated women experienced a feeling of carrying the world on their backs, demanding a greater attention to be able to experience, in an integrated way, the various spheres of their lives.
