Abstract

This article, thinking about psychoanalysis and aging, aimed to reflect on the libidinal condition of the elderly. In the aging process is there a reduction in libido? The text presents some theoretical constructions from Freud and illustrates with fragments of a clinical case. Following Freud, the libido is a force that acts with constant impact, without ever ceasing. If the elderly subject does not invest in reality, we should understand this as something of the order of the symptom and not as a libidinal emptying. Litza, clinical vignette, speaks of this condition. Each subject builds his way, his/her history, seeking within himself his own strengths to continue desiring. As a drive (trieb) destination, sublimation is the possible path.
