Abstract

After a decade of enactment of the affirmative action quota law for admission to public higher education, we discuss the structural dimension, the intersectional dimension and the institutional dimension of the university in the broader system of structural racism. In this way, we decant objective questions of the law, such as the discussion about whether or not to maintain the racial quota, privileging the social quota. Central point, in our view, is the updating of the Brazilian denialist system of racism that perpetuates an excluding discourse that promotes suffering and illness, supported by logics of unconscious denial and repeated actions for this maintenance. In contrast, revealing this dimension of racism and the myths that corroborate it in the Brazilian context, we defend the improvement and continuity of the racial quota system.
