LITERACY OF ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES IN PANDEMIC TIMES:

Abstract

This article presents the action, in times of pandemic, of an extension project entitled ALEGRIA (Learning to Read and Write, Generating Respect, Inclusion and Autonomy). The proposal is to demonstrate that there are possible ways to promote liberating literacy, through a critical reading of the world, based on humanist education. Initially, we gathered the theoretical assumptions regarding the learning of the written code, therefore we anchored in Ferreiro and Teberosky (1999), Ferreiro (2000), Soares (1998, 2019) and Freire (1987, 1989, 1996). Then, we present a sequence of three activities that were developed in the remote system, referring to the theme of Covid-19, climatic conditions, and the work with the textual genre poem, that culminated in the production of a collective video. With such experiences, we conclude that it is possible to think about an education that aims at a more humanistic and inclusive attitude towards the challenges of the 21st century. In this sense, it is essential to think of literacy as an enabler for a new paradigm for education and the transformation of the world.
