Ethics, Mysticism and Spirituality: Augustine Among Us

This article aims to present, within the scope of Saint Augustine's thought, the possible conjunction between reason and faith in dealing with questions that respond to concerns of different shades of the philosophical universe. We specifically sought to address this issue in the (re) reading of letter CXX, addressed to Consencio, around AD 410. It is also intended to present Augustine's originality so that, using the epistolary genre, to discuss and reflect on different subjects, always emphasizing the value of the argument supported by the dialogical exercise. It turns out that Augustine's purpose is often not to demonstrate the truth, but to demonstrate the possibility of achieving it, through an investigative effort that does not neglect the dimension of faith. Rather, it takes it as a component of the universe of knowledge, which is also the universe of formation of the subject in its multiple dimensions.
