Starting from two brief allusions made by Walter Benjamin to the biblical character Moses, the paper seeks to unveil some of the causes of the mosaic failure in emancipatory terms. His gesture, in fact, has not been able to dissolve the continuing history of oppression written by the hands of the winners. In order to carry out this analysis, there is a small change made by Benjamin to two decisive terms in an excerpt from Panorama Imperial: hatred and prayer in the 1923 version are correspondingly replaced by bitterness and revolt in 1928 (LÖWY, 2012). With this debate and rescuing Freud's Egyptian Moses, it is observed that the initial Mosaic impetus, which had on the horizon the liberation of the oppressed, should be preserved. On the other hand, his adherence to abstract laws shows the relevance of the criticisms that seem to exist in the excerpts alluding to the biblical figure, written by Benjamin.
