ABSTRACT
This communication intends to approach one of the perspectives on the problem of the passions in Aristotle, in the context of his theory of the passions. In this analysis, after presenting the general problem of passions (or emotions) in the philosophy of stagirita, we will dwell on the approach from Book II of Rhetoric and, among the passions examined therein, in piety and indignation, as this pair acts on the persuasive discourses and interferes in the judgment of the interlocutors of the rhetorical process. Such articulation takes the issue of discourse, and consequently of passions to the ethical-political arena, demonstrating how the exercise of citizenship was, in short, an exercise in persuasion. We will try to articulate the types of discourse and the fundamental elements of rhetoric, and the importance of the pthos to the conviction, establishing the importance of the relation of the speaker to his assembly
