O argumento pluralista em favor do realismo hipotético de Feyerabend

Abstract

Neste artigo procuramos expor o pensamento do austríaco Paul Feyerabend (1924-1994) sobre a desejabilidade do realismo científico em relação ao instrumentalismo. O seu principal argumento é a fertilidade heurística do realismo, favorecendo o aparecimento e a conservação de teorias rivais cuja concorrência demanda o desenvolvimento dos pontos de vista em questão. Apresentamos três exemplos históricos que corroboram a visão feyerabendiana: a teoria copernicana, a teoria quântica e o caso do movimento browniano. Discutimos também algumas objeções ao realismo feyerabendiano e sugerimos a influência de Mill sobre o posicionamento de nosso autor.
