UNIVERSALISMO, CONTRATO SEXUAL E DILEMA DE WOLLSTONECRAFT EM CAROLE PATEMAN

Neste artigo, analisamos O Contrato Sexual (1988) e The Patriarchal Welfare State (1987), de Carole Pateman, à luz da questão do universalismo. Reconstruímos a crítica da autora ao contratualismo clássico e ao patriarcado fraternal moderno e também investigamos a presença do componente patriarcal nos impasses para a realização da cidadania plena das mulheres no Estado de bem-estar social anglo-saxão dos anos 1980, expressos pelo dilema de Wollstonecraft. Procuramos mostrar, ainda, que a obra de Pateman é um antídoto contra uma tendência contemporânea de abandonar os clássicos por causa do seu sexismo, ao mesmo tempo em que contribui para o resgate das obras das filósofas modernas, apagadas da história da filosofia. Por fim, realizamos um breve balanço das principais críticas endereçadas à obra O Contrato Sexual e também da produção teórica posterior de Pateman, do contrato-sexual-racial global à defesa da renda básica universal como um ponto de partida para a cidadania plena das mulheres.
