Abstract
With the quote from The Life of Pyrrhus, by Plutarch, opening her book Pyrrhus and Cineas, Simone de Beauvoir confirms what seems to be patent in her reflection on human action: that various concepts in discussion have root in ancient Greece, and not only in Plutarch. Conventional motives, particularly the episode of the interview between a wise man and a powerful man, contextualize the discussion over concepts such as pleonexia, hybris, physis, nomos. These are confluences that evidence the familiarity of the French philosopher with the Hellenic tradition.
