Abstract
The doctrine of the analogy of being is one of the fundamentals of Aquinas' philosophical theology. An important interpretation of the doctrine was developed by Tommaso de Vio, the cardinal Caetano, in the XVI century. Caetano was one of the main influences of the neothomistic movement of the XIX and XX centuries, for example, in the ouvre of Garrigou-Lagrange. However, in recent times, his interpretation was challenged by somes scholars. In this paper, I present some of the objections against Caetano made by Bernard Montanges and Ralph McInerny, attempting to show that the notion of analogy in Aquinas is a more complex one.
