A história como catástrofe em Walter Benjamin
Abstract
In Ursprung der deutschen Trauerspiel (Origin of German Tragic Drama) Walter Benjamin elaborates a critical reflection on a certain saying (the idea of history from the seventeenth century) to understand another one - their own time, the Germany from the 20s. The philosopher examines drama texts in its baroque compositional elements - the themes of the dramas, the requirements for the formation of a playwright in the seventeenth century, the scenic elements, the characters, the language, the setting, etc. Our proposal, from Benjamin's work, is to provide the link between the Baroque drama (Trauerspiel) and the seventeenth-century historical events marked by violence that is concretized in a succession of disasters - natural and historical. The content of Trauerspiel is inextricably associated with the fragmented form of allegorical exposition. It indicates human history as the experience of death, ruin, and catastrophe. The man lies desolate among the dead objects and only in allegory finds a chance for redemption. This is the scenario for the understanding of history as catastrophe in Walter Benjamin, which we propose to submit.
