The use of methodologies with the student in the center of the learning process is increasingly being guided by pedagogical practices in higher education named active methodologies. In this paper, we problematize the usage of active methodologies in higher education from the applied literature. Based on the integrative literature review, we selected eight articles published in Portuguese and English between the years 2016 to 2020 through filtering in the SciELO, Scopus, Web of Science, and Science Direct databases. The results evidenced that the use of active methodologies in higher education impacts positively on the teaching and learning process. The teaching practice becomes both closer to the students and to the field in which the training process takes place, both in real or simulated practice, where the use of ICTs has worked as an intermediate to teaching while pleading for adaptation, which in turn, raises socio-emotional skills such as creativity and enables paths for learning.
