Many discussions about the students’ difficulties in High School (HS), related to the discipline of Physics, somehow go through the absence of basic knowledge such as scientific notation and the representation of numerical quantities. This gap is caused by mechanical learning, often used by students on the eve of assessments. This study used Astronomy concepts as advance organizers in measurement units and scientific notation teaching in 80 students’ class from the 2nd year of HS. The work was carried out in three classes, starting with a discussion about the importance of the correct use of measurement units within Physics and the presentation of astronomical concepts, ending with an exercise activity. The results showed the viability of using Astronomy as previous organizers, a fact that was evidenced in the subsequent classes when hydrostatics contents were worked when the students correctly used the measurement units and scientific notation.
