This text proposes a reading script for the short story “Da paz”, by Marcelino Freire, through a literary-discursive approach. First, this work is based on the enunciative perspective to observe the construction and social inscriptions of the central character. Then, the lens of the concept of polyphony is used to analyze the multiplicity of voices that echo in the protagonist's speech, which allows the perception of the hybridization of language in its relationship with the symbolic violence in action in the narrative. Thus, from the theoretical apparatus in question, a duality of the figure of peace is investigated: one side of it is revealed in the narrator's discourse, establishing a certain social place in a situation of vulnerability, while the other is inserted in the discourse of the oppressor, belonging to a distinct and privileged social space. In this way, a political conflict can be seen in the fictional text.
