The adversities in childhood, the Bronfenbrenner Theory and the discipline of Practices in the Community II: a report of experience where theory and practice complete each other

The Medical Course of the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais (PUC Minas) in Betim campus offers the discipline of Practices in Community II providing the academic with the begin of their training in Pediatrics in the context of Primary Care. It was found that many clinical cases attended are complex from the biopsychosocial point of view, which stimulated questions about the impacts of Adverse Experiences on Childhood (ACE) and how the contextual influences of the ACE on the child development are processed. The objective was to contribute to a better clinical and evolutionary understanding of one case attended at the UBS. One of the cases of a 4 months-old child was revisited and a simultaneous review was made of the structural concepts of ACE and the Bioecological Theory of Bronfenbrenner correlating both to the revisited case. It was observed that the child was exposed from gestation to multiple significant ACE identified at various levels / layers of the ecological system which gave greater visibility facilitating the understanding of the case, the planning of the interventions and estimation of the prognosis which is worrisome. The diverse nature of ACE found in the assessment of the child and the multiple possible consequences, some of them already present, require an interdisciplinary and intersectoral approach in the short, medium and long term.
