“Aprendendo Direito” Project: access to legal information as a condition for the realization of rights

Abstract

The “Aprendendo Direito” Project aims to bring the University closer to the communities located in its surroundings by creating spaces on local radios that make it easier for the University to listen to the beneficiaries of the project (have access to their demands), and the beneficiaries can also listen to themes from the Law of great practical relevance. The current format of radio programs is intended to capture the interest of the largest possible number of listeners and, therefore, consists of “information pills” of about twelve minutes. The focus is the democratic and accessible language dissemination of legal content. Nevertheless, it goes beyond the analysis of laws and judicial decisions, moving forward to various issues that have an impact on the context of the beneficiary communities. In the beginning, the Project was broadcast on only one radio in the city of Serro. Today, the program is being broadcast on 9 radio stations in different cities, reaching an audience of approximately sixty thousand listeners per minute. “Aprendendo Direito” Project brings the University closer to the community, promotes the exchange of knowledge between beneficiaries, extension workers and students, as well as meets one of the main guidelines of the pedagogical project of the PUC Minas Law Course, that is, to transform legal knowledge socially taught and learned into socially useful knowledge.
