A restauração das relações Cuba-EUA deriva de vários fatores, incluindo a reformulação da grande estratégia norte-americana. Sem o idealismo ou o realismo dos últimos 50 anos, Barack Obama adota pragmatismo na aproximação com Cuba, em resposta a novas forças sociais e à necessidade de recuperar a imagem dos Estados Unidos na região.
