This exploratory study represents a bibliometric and thematic review about the decision maker as a research object in the strategy field. The objective of this work is to analyze the academic production about the decision maker. In this sense, works are analyzed in which the research subjects represent the people who make decisions in the organizations under analysis. A bibliometric review of the literature was conducted under the laws of Lotka, Zipf and Bradford, and thematic categories were adopted to classify the works. The study identified North America and Europe as the largest research centers, presenting a demand for publications on the reality of other locations. In addition, considerations were made about the contribution of the United Kingdom and Belgium. It was also identified that the CEO, the middle manager and the High Level Team (TMT) are presented as subjects of greater emphasis in the studies, as well as large companies. After presenting the data, the paper suggests some ways in which research related to decision makers and researchers can follow to broaden the scope of the field.
