This article aimed to investigate how Knowledge Management (KM) was being used within the Human Resources Development Department of the Federal University of Minas Gerais. For this, a questionnaire was applied to the active employees of the department. In view of the results, it was found that the analyzed department is at an initial KM maturity level, in accordance with the scale proposed by Batista (2012). In addition, it was found that most employees of the studied department claim to have knowledge about GC and about 30% claimed to have had some previous experience involving KM. Therefore, the proposed was achieved, providing an initial diagnosis about KM in the investigated department.
