Abstract

It is a quantitative, retrospective study, with documental analysis of spreadsheets filled out by nurses at the Surgical Center from January to December 2018. The results were described and analyzed in a quantitative-descriptive way and expressed by means, frequencies and percentages, and presented in tables and graphs. The results show that 263 surgeries suffered delays and the specialties that most delayed were orthopedics (61), general practice (54) and urology (36). The most frequent reason for the delay was the surgeon (73.7%). The study highlighted the need for implementation of programs and procedures aimed at reducing delays, improving the use of financial and administrative resources of the hospital, reducing anxiety and frustration of patients and also of employees who are directly and indirectly affected by these delays.
