Abstract

Scope review conducted on nine databases indexed in the Virtual Health Library. Inclusion criteria adopted were: open access articles published in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, available in full text from 2013 to December 2022, regarding performance evaluation instruments for nurses. Exclusion criteria included: duplicate studies, narrative literature reviews, books, letters, editorials, abstracts published in event proceedings and/or journals. A total of 1,429 studies were identified, and after reading the title and abstract, an initial sample of 18 articles was composed, and after full reading, 8 studies were included. The analysis of the articles indicated the use of various instruments and evaluation methods, with a holistic emphasis, employing psychometric frameworks and Likert scales. The main competencies identified in the professional performance evaluation instruments were: problem-solving, teamwork, self-development, productivity and quality in work, creativity and innovation, communication, decision-making, nursing leadership and development of nursing care, systemic vision, focus on the user, education and supervision of staff/students, research and publication. There is a diversity of instruments designed to evaluate professional competence in nursing, but they are little applied in Brazil by managers.
