A atuação da UNESCO para enfrentar a biopirataria e a apropriação de conhecimento na Amazônia brasileira e continental

Abstract

The present work intends to understand how international cooperation from UNESCO promotes the sharing of standards for the development of national and international mechanisms in order to contribute to the security of traditional knowledge and intellectual property rights of the variety of people and communities that constitute the Amazon. We will mobilize the institutionalist approach of International Relations in order to analyze to what extent the norms shared between States, through UNESCO, can promote the security of traditional knowledge and intellectual property in the Amazon region, and how engaging in protecting the right to cultural diversity and biodiversity can be a way of combating biopiracy. We have concluded that UNESCO has a primal role concerning the sharing of norms about conservation of genetic resources through conventions, promoting good practices regarding public policies for the combat of biopiracy.
