Abstract

By working with the concept of political myth, one seeks to demonstrate one of the possible ways for the representation of Islam as an enemy of the West from the writings of Eulógio de Córdoba, in the 9th century. The representation conceived by Eulógio aimed to bequeath a face of the opponent to be fought, although it did not find much support in its time, but being recovered to give form to the enemy, in such a sense, we perceive in Eulógio one of the ways for the definition of this enemy. From an analysis of the production of São Eulógio, it becomes clear how he sought to leave an image of Islamic evil for later, reflecting on the possible impact of such a narrative. In the end, we realize that the concept of political myth is connected with Eulógio's discourse, although it cannot be said that the author is the only or main responsible for such construction.
