Abstract

This article aims to present ways of understanding teacher education, as well as reflecting on pedagogical practice and its relations with the constitution of the teacher's identity, addressing the social dynamics of the career. We have qualitatively elucidated some characteristics that constitute the teacher's identity, based on an interview with a male university professor. We also show that the theme of teaching identity is marked by a series of issues inherent to the subject, such as culture. Finally, we conclude that the teacher must understand the processes of his education in order not to distance himself from what it is to be a teacher, as well as he must invest in his continuing education to exercise his profession in a more assertive and coherent way.
