Abstract

This article aims to provide information on the development and complications arising due to prematurity, and to introduce a new assessment for children from birth to age five titled Assessment of Development from Prematurity to Young Children. A child’s development is a continuous learning process, and derives from genetics (intrinsic), nutrition (social), environment (extrinsic) and adaptation to adverse situations (personal). Premature children have great energy and nutritional expenditure after birth, making it very difficult to reach normal growth parameters
