Abstract

In general, the study of writing and speech of people who have Brazilian Portuguese as a second language has been growing a lot - especially in the last decade in Brazil. Investigating the use or not of prepositions by university foreigners is the focus of this article. It is argued that the use and non-use of prepositions varies according to the context and, from this, we use the concept of transference (interference) of L1 on learning and use of L2 to explain cases of erasure and correct uses and not of the prepositions by foreign students. We raise questions that induce critical and reflective exercise, wishing that we can contribute to research in this field. We hope that this study will be the subject of reflection on the learning of a second language – specially the BP – and, in a way, contribute to the innovation of teaching Portuguese to foreigners.
