Abstract

Introduction: Teachers deal with numerous challenges within their profession and often face challenges that can contribute to the development of anxiety and depression. Objective: To produce a systematic review of the findings of original studies carried out with Brazilian teachers investigating anxiety and depression. Methodology: Six databases were searched: Lilacs, Index Psi, Capes, Scielo, Educ @ and Pepsic, through the combination Ansiedade or Depressão or “Saúde Mental” or “Distúrbio Mental” AND Professor or Docente. Only articles that involved the emotional health of teachers from kindergarten to high school and that were selected during the period from July 2015 to February 2021 were selected and promoted. Results: After the analyses, 14 articles were selected that investigated teachers from the basic education network and allowed to quantify factors that can lead to the emotional state, such as school violence, precarious working conditions, the low salaries to which teachers have been exposed and the excessive number of students per class. Conclusion: Studies developing disorders and burnout syndrome have shown that teacher wear can have serious consequences, developing disorders and Burnout syndrome. Therefore, investments in public policies to promote mental health and improve working conditions are paid.
