HOSPITAL PSYCHOLOGIST'S PERFORMANCE IN THE EVENT OF PERINATAL DEATH OCCURRENCE

Abstract

The social conception of motherhood is related, among other terms, to joy and life, therefore, it escapes this common and expected scenario, when there is a death, in this way is essential the guidance of a trained professional at this moment. After bibliographical research, four interviews were conducted with hospital psychologists who work or had worked in cases of perinatal death, the interviews were transcribed and analyzed from the sense and significance, thus configuring content analysis. The results found allowed us to verify that the hospital psychologist has her own method of dealing with suffering, depending on the location and situation, she has devices for carrying out interventions, but she finds some barriers for her performance, such as institutional barriers, resistance of patients, lack of team psychoeducation and care. The research is limited by the small sample, but it opens the way for a much-needed discussion, which is present daily in the hospital and clinic environments. This is a scientific initiation activity developed as a student of the Psychology course, in the discipline of Scientific Research Models.
