This research deals with the knowledge and challenges experienced in the aging process and the social impacts on elderly’s life. The relationship between the development of Alzheimer's disease and depression, aging and memory decline were investigated. The development of this research was based on the analysis of Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) study’s database, in addition to the examination of comprehensive studies of Alzheimer's disease in Brazil and worldwide. The methodology used was based on the definition of the ideal database to be analyzed, as well as its complementation, treatment and stratification. A comparative statistical analysis was performed using data from two subgroups (with and without depression) of ADNI participants who entered this study with mild cognitive impairment and ended up with Alzheimer's disease. Demographic data, conversion rates from mild cognitive impairment to Alzheimer’s disease, image and chemical biomarkers, cognitive assessment tests and global, behavioral and functional assessments were analyzed. The results obtained, after the analysis, confirmed that participants suffering from depression are more impacted in the development of Alzheimer's disease than participants without depression.
