Abstract

This article presents the results of a research carried out within the institutional scientific initiation scholarship program (PIBIC) of the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, in 2021. The investigation, of a qualitative nature, aimed to analyze, from the point of view of elderly women, the social representation of old age and aging. The study involved carrying out 8 (eight) interviews with elderly women, inhabitants of the city of Belo Horizonte. In dialogue with the theoretical framework, a factorial correspondence analysis was carried out. It was possible to infer that, for the participants, there is an ambiguous process in the social representations of old age, as this stage appears both positively and negatively. This ambiguity seems to demonstrate a constant change in representations, accelerated by multiple variables, be they social, cultural, economic, labor and also technological.
